One of the aspects of dermatology that Dr. Li values most is the long-term relationship physicians build with patients. “It’s
humbling to learn from patients and to take the time to listen to them,” she said. Patients often teach physicians as much as textbooks do, Dr. Li said, because real-life cases rarely present exactly as described in training. She added that sometimes the most important part of care is not necessarily providing the latest therapy, but understanding the patient’s circumstances and being empathetic.

To Dr. Li, joining the Editorial Advisory Board of The Chronicle of Skin & Allergy is an honour and an opportunity to contribute to the Canadian dermatology community. “I’m proud, but
I’m also humbled to be joining the board and to have the opportunity to continue the legacy of the work that the journal has built,” Dr. Li said. “I also hope to contribute new perspectives and help continue growing its reach and impact within the Canadian medical community.”

How do moms navigate all of the information seen on social media, including in the skincare and beauty space?

Dr. Li shared her thoughts with @todaysparent on the topic, with some tips including:

🤲🏻 Be forgiving to yourself. What works for other moms, or what others appear to achieve (for example, in fitness or complexion), is not the standard nor the only metric of success in health and healthy living.

🤲🏻 Know your own capacity and limits, and be safe within it. From workout reps to intermittent fasting to detox challenges, understand your own body condition and underlying health state before attempting what others do who may be very different in genetics and characteristics than you.

🤲🏻 Take control of your feed. If you come across a piece of wellness and health content that leaves you feeling anxious, guilty, or fearful about your daily habits, hit “not interested” or “mute”.

🤲🏻 Don’t just follow a health claim or piece of advice without fact-checking. Cross-reference online claims with trusted, peer-reviewed public health resources, such as the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, HealthLink BC, or recognized professional medical societies (like the Canadian Dermatology Association or American Academy of Dermatology).

🤲🏻 Finally, seek professional medical advice to see if the health and wellness information is right for you. Your physician can provide sound guidance to help you navigate your own health and wellness journey, so that efforts are not only effective, but safe.
